This cosmopolitan species was described from Sudan but now is widely distributed throughout the tropics. It is most commonly associated with various species of the family Poaceae and is known to feed and breed in leaf axils rather than the florets ( Mound and Wells 2015). It is easily distinguished from other Anaphothrips species by its strikingly bicoloured females ( Figure 21 ) and the presence of a pore plate on sternite VIII of males. However, its body colour varies between geographical areas ( Mound and Masumoto 2009).

Material examined
