Etymology:—Based on the name of the host genus.
Holotype:—AMH-10590
Colonies amphiphyllous, sub-dense up to 1 mm in diameter, confluent. Hyphae sub-straight to flexuous, branching alternate at acute to wide angles, loosely to closely reticulate cells, 18–27 × 2–3 µm. Appressoria mostly alternate, 2% unilateral, one-celled, sub-antrorse, variously angular, free, 4–7 × 4–5 µm. Thyriothecia scattered orbicular, up to 110 µm in diameter, stellately dehiscing at the center, margin crenate to fimbriate, fringed hyphae very small; asci globose, octosporous, up to 28 µm in diameter; ascospores, conglobate, brown, oblong, uniseptate, constricted at the septum, wall echinulate, 17–21 × 8–9.5 µm. Pycnothyria scattered, orbicular, same as thyriothecia, up to 105 µm in diameter, stellately dehiscing and widely opened at the centre; conidia numerous, cinnamon brown, pyriform, 15–21 × 9.5–12 µm.
Distribution:— India (Maharashtra).
Material examined:— INDIA. Maharashtra: Hativale, Ratnagiri , on leaves of Mallotus philippensis (Lam.) Müell. Arg. ( Euphorbiaceae ), 16°60’90” N, 73°54’52” E, 41 m, 12 January 2022, Pratik Dilip Natekar- 5333, AMH-10590 (holotype) .
Notes:— Hosagoudar (2012) described Asterina malloticola Hosag., Kamar. & G. Rajkumar on Mallotus philippensis (Lam.) Müll. Arg. and A. mallotigena Hosag. & Sabeena on Mallotus sp. from Kerala ( Table 2 View TABLE 2 ). In terms of morphology, the current collection differs from these species. As a result, based on host specificity, the current collection is described as a novel species.
