Comments. Calycomyza richardsi   is morphologically similar to C. colombiana Sasakawa   , and is differentiated from the latter by the conspicuously plumose first flagellomere. The genitalia of the two species are nearly identical, including the shape of the aedeagus, but they can be differentiated primarily by the number of spines on the epandrium and on the surstylus.
