Jamesonia Hook. & Grev., Pl. Voy. Russes Monde View in CoL 2: t. 178. 1830.
Jamesonia (A. Tryon 1962) is a characteristic genus of humid grasslands above timberline along the eastern Andean slope. It is characterized by narrow, linear, erect, 1-pinnate blades with a circinate apex and 80–200 pairs of pinnae that are usually less than 1 cm long. Jamesonia is closely related to Eriosorus and hybridizes with it; phylogenetic studies suggest that both genera should be merged (PPG I 2016; see Eriosorus for further comments). Eriosorus usually has more than 1-pinnate blades with flat (vs. inrolled) margins and lacks circinate blade apices. A neotropical genus of about 20 species, seven in Bolivia.
The genus Tryonia of southern Brazil is closely related and recently segregated from Eriosorus / Jamesonia , and is sister to a clade comprising Taenitis , Syngramma , and Austrogramme ( Cochran et al. 2014) .
