Range: — Mexico, Mesoamerica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia (CO, LP, SC), and southern Brazil.
Ecology: —Common; in wet montane forests, often on steep slopes; 1200–3250 m.
Notes: —Fronds 80–400 cm long; venation with one costal areole parallel to the costa between adjacent costules; segments falcate with serrate margins at apices; rust-colored or tan hairs on the blade surfaces and veins abaxially; awns present on costae adaxially.
