Range: — Mexico, Mesoamerica, Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia (BE, LP, SC), and Brazil.

Ecology: —Uncommon; in forests, near stream margins; 300–700 m.

Notes: — An isolated species, related to the type of the genus, P. longifolia L., an American species ; some other elements in this group, all once pinnate, are paleotropical, e.g., P. vittata L.
