Range: — Mexico, Mesoamerica, Greater and Lesser Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, PA, SC), and Brazil.

Ecology: —Fairly common; in wet evergreen lower montane forests; 250–900 m.

Notes: —This species is apparently most closely related to certain African species.
