Adiantopsis Fée, Mém. Foug. View in CoL 5: 145. 1852.
Adiantopsis View in CoL is closely related to Cheilanthes View in CoL , and is recognized by digitate or pinnate, glabrous (except for clavate hairs 0.1 mm long abaxially), thin to chartaceous blades, many discrete sori on each ultimate segment; and echinate spores. However, some of these characters are also found in some species of Cheilanthes View in CoL . As currently defined, Adiantopsis View in CoL is a monophyletic genus of about 35 neotropical species, five in Bolivia; additional species may still be undescribed ( Link-Pérez & Hickey 2011, Link-Pérez et al. 2011, Schuettpelz et al. 2014, Link-Pérez et al. 2016).
Affinities of Adiantopsis View in CoL are somewhat uncertain, but appear to be with the Doryopteris View in CoL / Trachypteris View in CoL clade of Schuettpelz et al. (2007, 2014), as well as with a group of cheilanthoids (including Cheilanthes viridis (Forssk.) Sw. View in CoL -probably not a true Cheilanthes View in CoL ) from Africa ( Eiserhardt et al. 2011). Prado et al. (2013) obtained a similar phylogenetic result.
