Cheilanthes fraseri Mett. ex Kuhn, Linnaea View in CoL 36: 83. 1869.
= Notholaena fraseri (Mett. ex Kuhn) Baker, Syn. Fil. (ed. 2) 83. 1874.
= Cheilanthes boliviana C.Chr., Ark. Bot. View in CoL 20 A: 19. 1926.
Range: — Ecuador to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA).
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial in rocky places in semihumid regions; 1350–3150 m.
Notes: —Blades 1-pinnate-pinnatisect; pinnae deltate; segments abaxially with dense, orangish, matted hairs that extend beyond the segment margins; rhizome scales dark with abundant pale filamentous apices and marginal setae. Cheilanthes fraseri has more slender petioles and rachises, longer creeping rhizomes, relatively longer petioles, and longer, darker abaxial blade hairs than Myriopteris aurea . A putative hybrid between these two species has been reported from Peru ( Tryon & Stolze 1989), but this needs verification.
