Range: —Antilles; southern U.S.A. to Honduras; Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP).

Ecology: —Uncommon; terrestrial in rocky habitats in semihumid to arid habitats; 1300–2400(–3600) m.

Notes: —Leaves rather delicate, blades 2-pinnate-pinnatifid to 3-pinnate; rachises with stiff hairs mainly adaxially, lacking scales; rhizome scales orangish. This species is closely related to M. microphylla (Sw.) Grusz & Windham , widespread in Mexico and the Antilles; their differences and distributions need closer scrutiny.
