Adiantum mathewsianum Hook., Sp. Fil.
status

Adiantum mathewsianum Hook., Sp. Fil. View in CoL 2: 35. 1851.

Range: — Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia (SC); Paraguay and Brazil.

Ecology: —Rare (one collection known, Salino 463, BHCB), terrestrial in lowland forests; 150 m.

Notes: —Closely related to A. peruvianum and A. trapeziforme L. (from Mexico to Peru), more distantly to A. ornithopodum ( Prado 2003) and a group of Brazilian species. The resemblance to A. trapeziforme is especially close, and the two are not easy to distinguish. Rhizomes stout, short-creeping; rachises glabrous; blades 3–4-pinnate proximally, 3-pinnate distally, proximal pinna largest; pinnules oblong to trapeziform, incised on acroscopic and distal margins, tardily articulate, stalks 0.3–1 cm long, abaxially and adaxially glabrous, bases of pinnules overlying rachises, sterile margins lobate and lobes dentate to serrate; sori borne on acroscopic and distal margins on small lobes; indusia orbicular to lunate, glabrous.
