Ananthacorus View in CoL is a monotypic, neotropical genus, characterized by (2)3–5 rows of areoles on both sides of the ill-defined midribs that do not reach the blade apices ( Maxon & Underwood 1908). It is sometimes included in Vittaria View in CoL , but recent phylogenetic studies have shown the two genera to be distinct ( Schuettpelz et al. 2016), and Ananthacorus View in CoL sister to the Mexican-Central American monotypic genus Scoliosorus View in CoL .
