Range: — Mexico to Panama; Antilles; Colombia to Guyana, Trinidad, and Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, PA, SC); Paraguay and Brazil.
Ecology: —Common, terrestrial in lowland forests; 200–850 m.
Notes: —A member of the large Adiantum tetraphyllum clade, and distinguished from that by the linear, lunate indusia along the acroscopic side of the pinnules, usually one per pinnule, glabrous or with brownish hairs. Rhizomes moderately long-creeping; blades 2-pinnate, 3–8(–10) pairs of lateral pinnae; rachises with two kinds of scales: lanceolate with denticulate margins and arachnoid; pinnules 2–3 times longer than wide, 25–35 pairs per pinna, reduced toward pinna apices, pinnules abaxially with scales on veins, margins of sterile pinnules serrate.
