Radiovittaria remota (Fée) E.H.Crane, Syst. Bot. View in CoL 22(3): 515. 1997 [1998].
= Vittaria remota Fée, Mém. Soc. Sci. Nat. Strasbourg 5(1): 26, pl. 20, fig. 1. 1857.
= Vittaria williamsii Benedict, Bull. Torrey Bot. View in CoL Club 41(8): 407. 1914.
Range:— Antilles; Costa Rica to Suriname and Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Fairly common; pendent epiphyte, or on rocks or mossy slopes; 900–2650 m.
Notes: —The blades of Radiovittaria remota are wider than any other species in the genus. This species was subsumed under Vittaria gardneriana by Tryon & Stolze (1989), but we believe the two are distinct. The areoles diverge from the midribs (vs. more or less parallel to them); as a result of the areole arrangement, the lateral veins reach the margin above the point where the next vein on the same side starts.
