nom. nov.

Aeschynanthus murthyianus R.Kr.Singh & Arigela , nom. nov.

Aeschynanthus cordifolius Kraenzlin (1906: 282) View in CoL , nom. illeg., non Hooker (1859: t. 5131).

Type:— INDONESIA. Maluku Islands: Tidore , July 1884, Curtis s.n. (lectotype K000939502! , isolectotype E00155228! ; lectotype designated here) .

Distribution: Endemic to Maluku Islands, Indonesia.

Etymology: Named after Dr. G.V.S. Murthy, Former Scientist ‘G’, Botanical Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu for his valuable contributions to the Indian flora.

Notes: Kraenzlin (1906) described Aeschynanthus cordifolius based on specimens collected by Curtis from Tidore, Maluku Islands, Indonesia, but by practice of that time, he did not designate a holotype. Kraenzlin’s types are known to be held at B, BR, K, M and W ( Stafleu & Cowan 1979). Two herbarium sheets of A. cordifolius collected by Curtis from Tidore, Maluku Islands, Indonesia were traced, one each at E (E00155228) and K (K000939502). The best one and better-preserved specimen K000831702, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
