Trichogramma bertii Zucchi & Querino View in CoL , new species

( Figures 1 View FIGURE 1 a, 2a)

Antenna: flagellum length (0.15 ± 0.004); ratio of length to width of flagellum (4.56 ± 0.398); flagellum length to hind tibial length (0.92 ± 0.053); flagelliform setae very short (0.03 ± 0.004), tapering abruptly to apex; longest flagelliform setae length to greatest flagellum width (1.04 ± 0.130); basiconic sensilla with formula 1(2)22111; three placoid sensilla, the basal one 0.04 ± 0.004. Forewing: width to length ratio (0.57 ± 0.011); fringe setae short (0.02 ± 0.001). Hind wing: anterior track with 3 setae; posterior with 56 setae reaching midpoint of middle track. Scutellum: anterior setae very short and posterior setae conspicuous; ratio of anterior to posterior pair (0.07 ± 0.002). Male genitalia: ratio of width to length of genital capsule (0.40 ± 0.018); apical distance to genital capsule length (0.23 ± 0.014); apical width to genital capsule width (0.60 ± 0.049); dorsal lamina originating anterior to middle of genital capsule with basal notching; dorsal lamina gradually tapering from base to apex; posterior extension of dorsal lamina length (0.04 ± 0.003), with apex slightly pointed; dorsal lamina length to dorsal lamina width (1.48 ± 0.114); dorsal aperture length to dorsal lamina length (1.50 ± 0.235); dorsal ridge absent; ventral ridge reaching the midpoint of the genital capsule (0.04 ± 0.06); ventral ridge length to basal distance (0.42 ± 0.046); basal distance to genital capsule length (0.77 ± 0.014); intervolsellar process long with pointed apex attaining same level or extending slightly beyond apex of dorsal lamina; ventral processes at base of intervolsellar process. Quantitative data were obtained from three males.

TYPE MATERIAL Holotype male. BRASIL. SÃO PAULO: Altinópolis, Fazenda Chamflora, October 1984, ex egg of Glena sp., Evoneo Berti Filho collr. ( ESALQ). One paratype (male), Sorocaba, 10vii1992, ex egg of Melanolophia sp., C. Wilcken col. ( ESALQ) and one paratype (male) with same data (UCR).

DIAGNOSIS Trichogramma bertii is best characterized by the very short flagelliform setae and the relatively elongate intervolsellar process. T. bertii is similar to T. exiguum and to T. pretiosum , but differs by the much shorter flagelliform setae and intervolsellar process with its pointed apex attaining the same level as the apex of the dorsal lamina or extending slightly beyond it.

ETYMOLOGY The species is named after Professor Evoneo Berti Filho, ESALQ (Entomology), the collector of the holotype.
