Etymology. The new name was formed by combining the stem derived from the epithet nocturnus with an adjective lankanus derived from the country name Sri Lanka.

Remarks. The two species bearing the same name were described from different regions – the senior objective homonym from Chad, the junior homonym from Sri Lanka.
