Leucothoe richiardii richiardii Lowry & Stoddart, 2003: 156 .

Type locality and specimens. Genova. Types apparently lost.

Material examined. No material available for examination. Diagnosis based on description by Sivaprakasam (1969) and Krapp-Schickel (1975).

Diagnosis (female). Gnathopod 2 basis with setose posterior margin; carpus distally rounded; propodus palm with three small tubercles. Epimeron 3 posteroventral margin with simple cusp. Live specimens have alternating bands of red and orange on pereon, red spots on pleon, red antennae, and a red coxa 4.

Note. Krapp-Schickel (1975) illustrates the gnathopod 2 basis with a setose posterior margin. Sivaprakasam (1967) illustrates the gnathopod 2 basis with a bare posterior margin. Material used for these descriptions should be examined to determine if they are L. richiardii .

Male (sexually dimorphic characters). Unknown.

Habitat. Coarse sand, among Posidonia , Ascidiacea Nielson, and Caulerpa Lamouroux (1809) rhizoids; 40– 70 m.

Host. Sponges and Chaetopterus tubes.

Distribution. Tyrrhenian Sea: Genova ( Lessona 1865), Taranto ( Krapp-Schickel 1971), Sicily, Malta (Krapp- Schickel 1989). Mediterranean Sea: Naples (Della Vale 1893; Stebbing 1906; Krapp-Schickel 1975). Atlantic Ocean: Cape St. Francis, South Africa (K.H. Barnard 1916; Griffiths 1974b; Griffiths 1974c; Griffiths 1975), French Guinea ( Reid 1951). Indian Ocean: Madras ( Sivaprakasam 1969b), Tulear, Madagascar ( Ledoyer 1978b; Ledcoyer 1979a; Ledoyer 1986). Indo–Pacific Ocean: Bunaken, Indonesia ( Ortiz & Lalana 1997).
