Diagnosis. Pygommatius is distinguished by the characters in the key.

Distribution. Subsaharan Africa and Madagascar. Adults are associated with woodlands (bushveld + grass, dry woodlands, scrubland, coastal, estuary, and riverine forests) and grassy areas (savannas, sweeps along cultivated fields and grassy areas) at elevations up to 1385 meters. Commonly taken at forest margin and grass interface.

Remarks. Pygommatius was originally described as subgenus of Ommatius but later elevated to genus ( Scarbrough & Marascia 2003 , Scarbrough & Hill 2005). The genus is widespread on the African continent ( Fig. 110). Twenty-six species are recorded from subsaharan Africa. Madagascar has only one species, P. albatus (Martin) . Species keys are available ( Scarbrough & Marascia 2003 ).
