Allocotosia Schiner, 1866: 845 . Type species Asilus auratus Fabricius, 1794 , by original designation.
Allocotasia Wulp, 1872: 249 . Variant spelling error.
Diagnosis. Michotamia is distinguished by the unusually long flagellum ( Fig. 4); short, stout postocular bristles ( Fig. 10), the low mesonotum, ca. 2/5 as high as long; preapical scutellar groove absent; short seta-like dorsocentrals and usually short cell m 1 ( Fig. 52); abdomen elongated, clavate, tapered to narrow apex. The genus is further distinguished by the combined characters of the terminalia ( Figs. 53–57).
Distribution. Afrotropical (confined to Madagascar), Oriental, and Australasian Regions.
Remarks. Michotamia remains relatively unchanged since its original description. No species has been reported from Continental Africa. Michotamia coarctata is only from Madagascar ( Fig. 107).
