( Figs 5A–C View FIGURE 5 )

Holotype. (♀) Indonesia: SE Sulawesi, nr Sanggona, Base camp, Gn. Watuwila, Mal. trap 1, c 225 m, 15.x. – 5.xi.1989, C. van Achterberg, RMNH´89 (Leiden).

Etymology. The species name refers to the mainly black coloration.

Description. ♀. Body length 20 mm. Length of fore wing 14 mm.

Head. Flagellum with 44 flagellomeres, slightly lanceolate; 1 st flagellomere 2.5 × longer than wide, 12 th flagellomere square, widest flagellomeres 1.5 × wider than long. Temple strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye, punctate and granulate. OED 1.5 × and OOD 1.0 × ocellar diameter. Frons smooth ventrally, punctate dorsally. Face densely punctate and granulate, ± shining. Clypeus slightly convex, densely punctate, shining; apical margin blunt and straight (fig. 5A). Mandible with two teeth, ventral tooth much smaller than dorsal one, slightly bent inwards. Malar space 0.7 × as long as width of mandibular base. Gena with coarse dense punctures. Genal carina reaching hypostomal carina far away from mandibular base.

Mesosoma . Rather stout. Epomia present. Side of pronotum densely punctate dorsally, coarsely rugose ventrally. Notaulus shortly impressed at frontal margin of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum densely punctate and finely granulate, slightly shining. Mesopleuron densely and coarsely punctate, shining; speculum smooth. Epicnemial carina low, reaching frontal margin of mesopleuron dorsally. Sternaulus not impressed. Metapleuron rugose-punctate; juxtacoxal carina present only in apical half. Scutellum about as long as wide, with dense punctures; without lateral carina. Propodeum incompletely carinated (fig. 5B), continuously sloping down apically, without apophysis; spiracle slit-shaped.Area basalis much wider than long, without median tubercle. Area superomedia about heart-shaped, slightly longer than wide, finely aciculate, apical carina weak; costula absent. Hind coxa densely punctate and pilose, with weak scopa apico-ventrally. Hind femur densely punctate, 3.9 × longer than wide. Claws simple, strongly bent apically (by 90°). Areolet almost quadrangular, frontal distance between veins 2rs-m and 3rs-m 1.0 × their diameter. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 2.0 × its width.

Metasoma. Stout and blunt apically, semi-amblypygous; hypopygium unmodified, with fine setae, almost as long as the distance of its apical margin to metasomal apex. 2 nd to 4 th sternites with median folds. Postpetiole strongly widened, basally with latero-median carina; median field moderately elevated, aciculate and apically punctate; lateral field punctate (fig. 5C). Gastrocoelus impressed, almost smooth. Thyridium almost transverse, 0.8 × as wide as the interval between thyridia. 2 nd tergite 1.4 × wider than long. 2 nd and 3 rd tergites densely rugose-punctate; 2 nd tergite aciculate medially. 4 th tergite densely punctate, following tergites with superficial punctures, shining. Ovipositor sheath short, not extending behind metasomal apex.

Colour. Black. Flagellum black, basal six flagellomeres ochreous, ventrally, flagellomeres 7–12 ivory dorsally. Palps, apical margin of clypeus, facial and frontal orbits and two paramedian spot below antennal sockets yellowish; spot on outer orbit and mandible basally red (fig. 5A). 1 st to 3 rd tergites with transverse reddish-yellow stripes postero-laterally (fig. 5C); 6 th and 7 th tergites reddish-brown. Coxae black; fore and mid coxae with apical yellowish spots; fore and mid legs otherwise reddish-yellow; fore and mid femur with brown stripes posteriorly; mid tarsus mainly blackish; hind femur brown dorsally, reddish ventrally; hind tibia reddish, with black external stripe; hind tarsus black. Wings strongly brownish infuscate; pterostigma dark reddish-brown.

♂ unknown.

Remarks. This new species is characterized by a semi-amblypygous metasoma, stout metasomal apex and incompletely carinated propodeum. Its generic position is questionable. The area superomedia is heart-shaped and not distinctly elevated above the surrounding areas as in typical members of Amblyjoppa Cameron ; it resembles the structure found in Coelichneumon Thomson. Due to the rather stout and blunt metasomal apex, the species runs to Uchidia Heinrich (synonymized with Naenaria Cameron by Uchida 1942) in the key of Heinrich (1934), but from typical Naenaria species it can be differentiated by its spindle-shaped metasoma and shorter hypopygium. I have included this species in the genus Amblyjoppa here, but the generic arrangement of the Oriental members of Ichneumoninae with continuously slanting propodeum, the Protichneumonini sensu Heinrich (1967) , needs further investigation.
