Description. Body dark gray, extremities grayish black. Head thin and densely punctured, eyes dorso-laterally placed and protruding outward. Length of rostrum more than twice the width. Pterigia closed in the front. Frons with a longitudinal depression and of equal width till the eyes and its surface with dense and hollow punctures. Middle carina evident only in the apical part. Anterior part of the head with dense and strong hairs, but the posterior part of it with thin and sparse hairs ( Fig. 4–5 View FIGURES 3.,6.,9.,11 ).

Antenna short and thick, second segment of funicle as long as first segment. The third segment longer than wide and subsequent segments spherical. Clava short and wide.

Pronotum twice the width of the head with its widest point behind the middle. Disc of pronotum with very strong and dense shiny granules. Thin and short hairs between granules (Fig. 7–8).

Elytra long and oval, 1.5 times wider than pronotum. Sutural interval and elytral carinae high, two rows of punctures between carinae. Punctures relatively wide, joining with each other and clothed with thin gray hairs. Three rows of irregular, rather large shiny granules in intervals (Fig. 10, 12). Femora untoothed. Male and female genitalia are shown in Figures 15–19. Length: Males 11,5–12 mm, females 12 mm long.

Diagnosis. A closely related species to O. (Paracryphiphorus) bicostatus BOHEMAN IN SCHÖNHERR, 1843 . The new species differs primarily from O. bicostatus in having a wider head and pronotum ( Figure 3 View FIGURES 3.,6.,9.,11 – 8). Among other distinguishing characters are the deep hollows at the sides of elytra (Figure 9–12) and the strong spur on the inner edge of the apical part of the protibia ( Figure 13 View FIGURES 13 –14). Mr. Magnano has reported that the new species looks likeor better: is similar to O. (Paracryphiphorus) droveniki BRAUN, 1996 described from Greece (personal communication). However, the species O. (Paracryphiphorus) droveniki was included by Braun (1996) in the O. (Paracryphiphorus) gemellatus STIERLIN, 1883 species group, whereas the new species should be considered closer to the O. (Paracryphiphorus) bicostatus group due to the structure of its elytra ( Reitter 1912b; Stierlin 1861) and can be examined under this species group.

Derivatio nominis. This new species has been named after Luigi Magnano, Italian coleopterologist who has been carrying out research on the species of the genus Otiorhynchus for 50 years.

Habitat. The new species has been collected among fallen leaves and under stones in a small oak grove ( Quercus pubescens WILLDENOW, 1805 ) located nearby the coastline. In that area a small brook, which is activated by the rain, increases the humidity of the environment. The area is also characterized by the presence of Asphodelus aestivus BROTERO, 1804 plants.
