Dorythrips chilensis Hood View in CoL

Material examined. ARGENTINA, Mendoza, Potrerillos , from Adesmia trijunta flowers, 26.xi.2008, two males (de Borbón) .

Comments. Dorythrips moundi is easily differentiated from the other species of the genus because of the lack of a long cephalic process that has previously been considered characteristic of the genus. Also, the ratio between antennal segments VI and (VII + VIII + IX) is about 0.9 with a coefficient of variation of 5% while it varies between 0.4 and 0.7 in the other Dorythrips species.

Two larvae of another species of Melanthripidae or Aeolothripidae were found with the adults of D. moundi . These larvae were reared, and correspond to Erythrothrips species. These Erythrothrips larvae are red with white bands, and have two pairs of teeth almost equal in size on tergite IX, whereas larvae of Dorythrips moundi are yellow amd have the central pair of setae on tergite IX robust and more developed than the lateral pair.
