DESCRIPTION.

MALE. Measurements: length: 16.5–18 mm, width: 9–10 mm.

Body: laterally slightly convex, elytra almost parallel, slightly bent; brownish-yellow except head, all margins, mouthparts, tarsi, protibia and metatibia deep brown to black; without metallic reflections.

Head: clypeus rounded and totally reflexed, aerolate-rugosely punctate, vertex alveolatepunctate, transversal elongate foveolate punctures near eye margins. Antennae with 9 antennomeres, with club as long as funicle.

Thorax: pronotum rectangular, wider than long; sides angular in middle; all margins with complete marginal line; anterior angles slightly projecting and reaching posterior margin of eyes; with shallow horseshoe-shaped punctures, almost coalescent on sides; scutellar shield subobtuse, with shallow horseshoe-shaped punctures.

Elytra: longer than wide; epipleura complete; regularly striate-sulcate; primary costae more convex than interstices; interstices with small isolated rounded punctures and microreticulate; striae with close horseshoe-shaped punctures; humeral calli marked, apical calli slightly marked.

Pygidium: triangular, apex rounded, marginated along anal plate, not projecting posteroventrally and not surpassing apex of elytra; punctate on disc, transversally, semicircularly punctate on lateral sides.

Venter: lateral part of metaventrite with setigerous punctures, median part almost smooth; abdominal ventrites with small transversal isolated tubercles, imbricate-punctate.

Legs: protibiae tridentate, inner claw relatively elongate, wide, flattened and cleft, strongly sinuate at base, one third shorter than last tarsomere; mesotarsal outer claw cleft; outer claw of metatarsus slightly longer than inner one and uncleft.

Setation: dorsal side almost glabrous except isolated yellowish setae on antennae, lateral margins of pronotum and along the first part of margins of elytra; line of short, close, erected brownish setae inserted in setigerous punctures along margins of inner part of protibia; long separeted, erected brownish setae inserted in setigerous punctures along margins of inner part of meso and metatibia, closer and shorter on inner face; underside with long, erected yellowish setae inserted in setigerous punctures on sides of metaventrite; long, erected, isolated yellowish setae along margin of anal plate; close and long setae on anterior and posterior margins of prosternum; abdominal ventrites with isolated, long, erected brownish-yellow setae inserted in setigerous punctures; pygidium glabrous.

Aedeagus: in lateral view, parameres elongate and ventrally slightly sinuate before the apex; in dorsal view, parallel from base to middle part, laterally slightly curved in the third part, apex strongly diverging, apico-internal angle obtusely subtriangular; in ventral view, apex of median lobe rounded, apex of parameres incurved.

FEMALE: Measurements: length: 17–18 mm, width: 9–10 mm.

Differs from ♂ by: abdomen convex; club of antennae slightly shorter; protibiae narrower with apical tooth rounded and longer; large claw of protibia not modified.

DERIVATIO NOMINIS.

The species epithet is a noun in opposition, referring to the Koulango ethnic group from North- West of Ivory Coast.

DISTRIBUTION.

Known from Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.

BIOLOGY.

The species was collected in the months of January, February, April, May, September and October.

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS.

A. koulango sp. nov. belongs to the homogeneous paleopyga– group, reviewed by MACHATSCHKE, 1964, and strongly resembles A. dossidea Ohaus, 1925 but can be distinguished as follows:

A. koulango sp. nov. ( Figs 3–4 View Fig View Fig ) A. dossidea Ohaus, 1925 ( Figs 3–4 View Fig View Fig )

Aedeagus: parameres in dorsal view, parallel from base to middle part, laterally slightly curved in the third part, apex strongly diverging, apico-internal angle obtusely subtriangular.

Aedeagus: parameres in dorsal view, parallel from base to apex; apico-internal angle rounded with a deep notch.

Punctures of pronotum deeper ( Fig. 4H View Fig ). Punctures of pronotum shallow ( Fig. 4I View Fig ).
