Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Alto Caparaó, Parque Nacional do Caparaó , 1300 m, 26 October 1996, L. S . Leoni 3500 (holotype GFJP!, isotype UB!) .

Epilithic; stem with internodes 4–7 diam.; roots numerous, dense, green, smooth; cataphylls and prophylls 12–16 cm long, dimorphic, lanceolate, 2-keeled, apex acute, both persisting as long brown fibers. Leaves rosulate, erect to spreading; petiole 6–13 × 0.7–1.5 cm, U-shaped narrowly sulcate on the adaxial surface, with obtuse margins, dark green, obtuse abaxial, pale speckled; geniculum 0.5–1.5 cm long, slightly thicker than the petiole, pale green; sheath 5.2–9.0 cm long; blade 46–58 × 21.5–32.0 cm, coriaceous, obovate, base obtuse to rounded, broadest at middle or slightly above, apex rounded with a mucron up to 2 mm long; adaxial surface matte, medium green, abaxial surface matte lightly paler, with slightly wavy margins; glandular punctuations absent; leaf venation eucamptodromous; midrib slightly prominent on the adaxial surface, obtusely raised on the abaxial surface, not ribbed in median region; primary lateral veins 10–15 pairs, departing midrib at 40°–50° angle, arcuate, slightly raised in grooves on adaxial surface, raised on abaxial surface; secondary lateral veins poorly developed or absent; collective veins appearing near the apex or absent. Inflorescence pendent, usually shorter than the leaves; peduncle 30–46 × 0.5–0.7cm, cylindric, smooth (never ribbed), greenish. Spathe 11–17 × 1.8–2.5 cm, sometimes deciduous at post-anthesis, spreading, coriaceous, lanceolate to ovate, rarely elliptic, lilac on adaxial surface, greenish on abaxial surface, inserted at 45–50° angle on the peduncle, apex acuminate, base obtuse, broadest slightly above the base, sometimes almost at middle, margins almost meeting obtusely then shortly, striations absent, and acutely decurrent on the peduncle. Spadix 9.5–25.0 cm long, 1–7 mm diam. at base, 3–4 mm diam. at apex, brown, sessile or stipitate ca. 4 mm long, tapered, slightly curved, broadest near base, with 9 to 13 flowers in principal spiral and 7 to 10 flowers in alternate spiral; flowers 14–20 × 0.8–2.0 mm, rhomboidal; tepals matte; lateral tepals 0.6–1.0 mm wide, inner margins convex, outer margins 2-sided; pistils not emergent; stigma ellipsoid; pollen grains yellowish; stamens obscuring the pistil; filaments not exserted; anthers 0.4– 0.5 × 0.3–0.8 mm; thecae 0.4–0.5 × 0.2–0.5 mm, elliptic to ovoid. Infructescence 12–15 × 1–2 cm, pendent, brown, cylindric. Berries 2.3–2.5 × 0.8–1.0 mm, bicolored, vinaceous at base, purple at apex, apex rounded, glossy, oblong to ellipsoid, 4-tepal filaments. Seeds 1–2, 2–4 × 2.5–3.0 mm, cream, when fresh, glossy, embedded in mucilaginous pulp, oblong to ellipsoid.

Distribution and habitats:—Endemic to the Minas Gerais state ( Coelho et al. 2020), where it can be found in the municipalities of Alto Caparaó, in the Parque Nacional do Caparaó ( Gonçalves 2005, Camelo et al. 2020), Lima Duarte, in the Parque Estadual de Ibitipoca, and near Carangola city, in the Montana Semideciduous Forest, at 1.280 – 1.320 m elevation above sea level ( Temponi et al. 2012).

Conservations status:—The species occurs have not been adequately documented and its only found in Minas Gerais state, based on this it was considered Data Deficient (DD).
