Type locality. N Borneo, Kudat [= Malaysia, Sabah State, Kudat ].

Material examined. 15 specimens. MALAYSIA: Sabah: 14 ex., Batu Punggul Resort env., 24 June–1 July 1996 ( NHMW, NMPC) ; 1 female, Kinabalu National Park, Sayap , 1000 m, 27 September 1996, coll. D. Grimm ( SMNS) .

Diagnosis. Small, elongate oval species (body length 3.5–3.7 mm). Elytra with subbasal testaceous band very broad, covering at least basal third of elytra; or elytra almost uniformly testaceous ( Fig. 5 View Figs ). Apical part of median lobe in lateral view almost straight, narrowing to apex which is bent dorsally ( Fig. 22 View Figs ).

Variability. A species rather variable in elytral colouration: specimens from Batu Punggul are almost completely testaceous with only indistinct infuscation posteriorly to elytral midlength.

Distribution. Laccophilus girardi is so far known only from Sabah state, Malaysia ( Fig. 40 View Figs ).
