cranial and dental measurements indicated in table 1, with the exception of CBL (unavailable for either available skull of P. coxi ) and BBC (measurable in only one of the two skulls of P. coxi ), omitted to allow for the inclusion of these critical samples. All measurement values were transformed to natural logarithms prior to analysis. Principal components were extracted from a covariance matrix, and canonical variates were extracted from the discriminant function analyses. The software program Statistica 8.0 (Statsoft, Tulsa, Okla.) was used for all analytical procedures.
