Female macroptera. Body mostly brown, except antennal segments I and II ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ), mid- and hind tibiae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ), and all tarsi yellow; abdominal tergite VI paler than other segments; fore wings brown with pale sub-basal area.

Head wider than long ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ), with closely spaced transverse lines within ocellar triangle, with occipital apodeme touching posterior margin of eyes, with three pairs of ocellar setae, pair III situated outside ocellar triangle, with four pairs of postocular setae mesad of posteroinner angle of compound eye. Antennae 8-segmented.

Pronotum sculptured around blotch with many markings between the major lines; blotch deeply concave posteriorly and weakly concave at anterior and lateral margin ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 7 ); blotch with a pair of long posteroangular setae and one pair of short posteromarginal setae; with four pairs of setae on anterior margin. Mesonotum with closely spaced striations, and small lines between the major striae; median setae situated far from posterior margin. Metanotum with linear reticulation, many small linear markings between the major sculpture lines, median setae situated on anterior margin. Fore wing second vein with 2 distal setae; clavus with 4 marginal and 1 discal seta.

Abdominal tergites with small lines between microtrichia, tergite I without marginal microtrichia medially, II– VIII with rows of marginal microtrichia, shorter medially on II–VI; tergites II–VIII with discal microtrichia laterally, smooth medially; tergites IX–X smooth, without discal microtrichia; sternites without discal setae, VII with three pairs of posteromarginal setae arising in front of posterior margin; sternites with discal microtrichia present only laterally. Ovipositor well developed.

Measurements of holotype female in microns. Body length 1080. Head, length 168; width across eyes 83; eyes length 68, width 48, distance between two compound eyes 65. Pronotum, length 130; width 200; pronotal blotch width 158 (38 median, 75 lateral); blotch posteroangular setae 31. Metanotum median setae length 26. Fore wing length 765. Antennal segments I to VIII length (width) as follows: 24 (29), 37 (31), 62 (21), 60 (20), 45 (18), 55 (17), 12 (7), and 16 (6).

Male macroptera. Distended body length 0.8 mm. Similar to female; abdominal tergite IX with median setae (S1) as long as lateral setae (S2), but in front of S2; abdominal sternite VII with small oval pore plate.

Material studied. Holotype female (in SCAU), CHINA, Hunan Province, Zhangjiajie (29°12′N, 110°27′E), host plant unknown, 29.VII.1987, coll. Tong Xiao-li.

Paratypes: 3 females, 1 male, collected with holotype, with same data.

Remarks. This new species is similar to N. elaeagni , surrufus and xestosternitus but they can be distinguished by above key. Moreover, this species differs from N. elaeagni by having occipital apodeme touching posterior margin of eyes (vs. not touching in N. elaeagni ).

According to Kudô (1995), this new species is also similar to a Japanese species, N. mitubautugi , but is distinguished from latter by the following character states: mid and hind tibiae yellow (vs. brown in N. mitubautugi ); antennal segments I and II yellow (vs. brown in N. mitubautugi ); body bicolored yellow and brown (vs. brown to dark brown in N. mitubautugi ).

Etymology. Specific epithet from Latin “ concavus ” which means concave, and refers to the posterior margin of pronotal blotch deeply concave medially of this new species.
