Lactobacillus delbrueckii ( Bacillus delbrücki ) (del.brueck’i.i. N.L. gen. n. delbrueckii , of Delbrück, named for M. Delbrück, a German bacteriologist).
Type species of the genus Lactobacillus View in CoL . Because of the high phenotypic and genotypic similarities between L. delbrueckii View in CoL , L. leichmannii View in CoL , L. lactis View in CoL and L. bulgaricus View in CoL , only L. delbrueckii View in CoL is retained as a separate species. Both L. lactis View in CoL and L. leichmannii View in CoL are treated as L. delbrueckii subsp. lactis View in CoL and L. bulgaricus View in CoL as L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus View in CoL [ 60]. All strains produce D(−)- lactic acid.
