Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis (lac’tis. L. gen. n. lactis , of milk).

L. delbrueckii subsp. lactis includes strains previously designated as L. lactis and L. leichmannii ; L. delbrueckii subsp. lactis ferments glucose to D(−)-lactic acid and also metabolises sucrose, fructose and mannose, maltose and trehalose [ 60]. The genome size is 1.87 Mbp and the mol% G+C content of DNA is 49.9.

Isolated from milk, cheese, compressed yeasts and grain mash.
