* Tadarida (Mops) congica J.A. Allen, 1917 .

Hayman et al. (1966: 65) considered trevori to be a synonym (or – following Koopman 1965: 26 – at most as subspecies) of Tadarida (Mops) congica . However, based on size and subtle differences in the ear and facial features, Peterson (1972: 10) separated the smaller trevori from the larger congicus . This view was followed by Freeman (1981: 159, 160) and Simmons (2005: 444).

Besides the type specimen, Hayman et al. (1966: 65) mention one extra locality: Iso.4 (RBINS 13826). As indicated above, however, this specimen was re-identified as T. aloysiisabaudiae by Peterson (1972: 2), leaving the type specimen of M. trevori as the only representative of this species in the DRC. Happold(2013z:538) marked the northeastern corner of the DRC and central Uganda as the core distribution area for trevori , with some further individual localities in Guinea, eastern Côte d’Ivoire, western Ghana, and western Nigeria. A record from the Central African Republic needs further investigation as it might represent either congica or trevori ( Fahr 2013m; Happold 2013z). Concerning the habitat preferences of the two species, Peterson (1972: 17) stated that trevori is a forest edge or open forest dweller.
