Distribution in Iran. East Azarbaijan (Nikdel 2015; Nikdel et al. 2015).
General distribution. Albania, Algeria, Austria, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, “Caucasus”, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Libya, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, the Netherlands, North Korea, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine.
Plant associations in Iran. Astragalus seidabadensis Bunge (Fabaceae) (Nikdel 2015), Vicia cappadocica Boiss. (Fabaceae) (Nikdel 2015; Nikdel et al. 2015). Collecting of this species on the above plants is surely occasional since P. violaceum is strictly associated with Polygonaceae ( Hoffmann 1958) .
