Alborz ( Sanaei & Seiedy 2015, 2017), Fars, Kordestan ( Wanat 1995), Guilan, Kermanshah, Lorestan, ( Wanat 1995; Legalov et al. 2010), Northern Khorasan ( Wanat 1995; Hoseini & Dousti 2015), Tehran ( Borumand 1998; Legalov et al. 2010; Modarres Awal 2012, all as Apion scalptum ), Razavi Khorasan, West Azarbaijan ( Legalov et al. 2010), Iran (no exact locality cited) ( Dieckmann 1977 as Apion scalptum ).

General distribution. Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Pakistan, south European Russia, Syria, Tadzhikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

Plant associations in Iran. Asteraceae ( Sanaei & Seiedy 2017) , Carthamus sp. ( Asteraceae ) ( Borumand 1998) and surely occasional on Malvaceae ( Modarres Awal 2012) .

Comments. The nominotypic subspecies lives in western Mediterranean and in its southern peripheral area of cen-

tral Europe ( Wanat 1995; Alonso-Zarazaga et al. 2017), whereas the subspecies caviceps is the one occurring in Iran (M. Wanat, personal communication).
