Remarks: Juvenile specimens (SL<50 mm) reported in the original description and catalogued as ZIN 12348 (5) Sea of Okhotsk, Sakhalin Island, Aniva Bay, 29 Russian fathoms [62 m], station 21, trawl, 23.08.1901, collector P.Yu.Schmidt were re-identified by Schmidt as Hippoglossoides elassodon Jordan & Gilbert, 1880. One of two specimens from ZIN 13070 was sent to the USNM (apparently now catalogued as USNM 51488). The largest and best syntype ZIN 12351 can be designated as lectotype in future revisions.
