Current status: Pseudopleuronectes herzensteini ( Jordan & Snyder, 1901) ( Norman, 1934: 342).

Syntypes: ZIN 1583 View Materials (3) Hakodate, 1863, collector P.F.Maksimovitch ; ZIN 6163 View Materials (1) Hakodate, 1881, collector A.V.Grigor’ev ; ZIN 8730 View Materials (1) Vladivostok, 1889 .

Remark: Limanda herzensteini Jordan & Snyder, 1901 is a replacement name for Pleuronectes japonicus Herzenstein, 1890 , which is preoccupied by Pleuronectes japonicus Houttuyn, 1782 in Cynoglossidae ( Jordan & Snyder, 1901: 746). The largest and best syntype ZIN 8730 can be designated as lectotype in future revisions.
