Echinomuricea delicata ( Fernando, 2011) potential new comb. (species status uncertain)
Acanthogorgia delicata Fernando, 2011: 29–30 , pl. 9, fig. 1–1c (Cuddalore); Fernando et al. 2017: 50, pl. 19, figs. 2–2C (Cuddalore).
Opinion: This species does occur in the region.
Justification:
Literature analysis: This species was originally named Acanthogorgia delicata , but the specimen is a reddish, sparsely branched colony, the text says the coenenchyme has thorny spindles, and the figured sclerites show two long thornscales that are characteristic of Echinomuricea . However, without more detailed descriptions and larger illustrations of the sclerites it would be difficult to recognise their species, and without a revision of the genus it would probably be impossible to assess its validity.
