Microcentrum xavieri Sovano & Cadeña-Castañeda n. sp.

( Fig. 2–4 View FIGURE 2 View FIGURE 3 View FIGURE 4 )

Diagnosis. Tegmen lanceolated with a conspicuous yellowish-green venation, delineated, resembling a mined leaf in the costal vein, costal vein containing yellow spots ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). Tympanic foramen green in both sides. Forceps-like cerci, denticulate in the distal portion. Subgenital plate long (mean 5.1 mm), anterior margin deeply emarginated. Styles cylindrical.

Holotype. ♂ Brasil, Amazonas, Manaus, ZF-2 Km-14, Torre 35 mts altura (02°35'21"s / 60°06'35"w) 13- 16.viii.2004, J.A.Rafael; F.F.Xavier F°; A.R.Ururahy; A.Silva F°, & S.Trovisco, Lençol: Luz Mista e BLB. ( INPA).

Description. Color: Light-green ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A). Head: Broad fastigium (one half the length of the pedicel antennal), contiguous to the forehead ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Globular compound eyes. Central ocellus conspicuous, lighter colored when compared to remainder of the body. Thorax: Pronotum Smooth, lateral lobes longer than broad, lighter in color when compared to remainder of the body ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 C). Tegmen lanceolate with a conspicuous reticulate venation as a mined leaf, anterior margin with yellow punctuations along its proximal half, black pigmented stridulatory field ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 D). Legs: hind femur with the proximal portion lighter in color compared to remainder of the body. Abdomen: tenth tergite unmodified, epiproct projected, triangular, not acuminate. Forcepslike cerci, without ramifications, armed with a tooth at apex ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E). Subgenital plate longer than broad, anterior portion deeply emarginated with slender stylus ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 F).

Comments. Some specimens may display a slight variation in the pattern of tegmen spots ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 G). This variation has so far been observed only in individuals collected at high altitudes (Roraima State proximities). Remaining characteristics of these specimens agree exactly like those of the holotype.

Females. Coloration of the specimens and body structure according to the holotype description. Subgenital plate rectangular, proximal margin emarginated, V-shaped; distal margin slightly depressed in the median portion ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 A). Ovipositor short (mean 6: 13 mm), abruptly curved upwards, distal portion serrate from the inner margin to its apex, with the external margin smooth ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B).

Etymology. The specific epithet is in honor and acknowledgment to the biologist Francisco Felipe Xavier Filho (Chiquinho), friend and collector of this species.

Distribution. Known for the State of Amazonas, Brazil, for Colombia, and for localities at the Brazil- Colombia boundary.
