Type locality: Imbituba, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Allotype female with labels: (1) printed on white paper: Imbituba | Nov. Dez, 36 [1936] | Dr. M. Leitão”; (2) printed on red paper: “ALOTIPO”; (3) printed on white paper: “20.240”; (4) handwritten on white paper: “ Messiasia | carrerai | n. sp. | d’Andretta, 1951 ”.

Preservation: Pinned; specimen intact with undissected terminalia.

Paratype male with labels: (1) printed on white paper: “Imbituba | Nov. Dez, 36 [1936] | Dr. M. Leitão”; (2) printed on red paper: “PARATIPO”; (3) printed on white paper: “20.241”; (4) handwritten on white paper: “ Messiasia ɗ | carrerai n. sp. | d’Andretta. 1951 ”.

Preservation: Pinned; left wing mounted on slides and right wing glued at the first label; Missing parts: right tarsus of leg II and III.

Paratype male with labels: (1) printed on white paper: “Imbituba | Nov. Dez, 36 [1936] | Dr. M. Leitão”; (2) printed on pink paper: “PARATIPO”; (3) printed on white paper: “20.242”; (4) handwritten on white paper: “ Messiasia ɗ | carrerai n. sp. | d’Andretta. 1951 ”.

Preservation: Pinned; both antennae glued at the first label, genitalia, head and right leg III mounted on slides; Missing parts: none.
