Type locality. “Regno di Napoli” [ Former Kingdom of Naples ], Italy .

Material examined. Lectotype by present designation ( Fig. 5 ), female, MZFN: new box, labelled: “ Mordella brevicauda A. Cos. [original Cost’s label] | LECTOTYPE Mordella brevicauda Costa, 1854 D. Selnekovič des. 2019 [red label] | Mordella brachyura Mulsant, 1856 D. Selnekovič det. 2019”; pinned in right elytron . Additional specimens in the series: 1 male, 1 female, MZFN: new box, no data .

Current status. Valid species; junior homonym of Mordella brevicauda Boheman, 1849 , with replacement name Mordella brachyura Mulsant, 1856 .

Remarks. The lectotype corresponds to the current interpretation of the species.
