Crocodylus niloticus Laurenti, 1768 View in CoL
CITES App. II
Vouchers: None
Localities: AB (L), IL (L, B), KF (L, G)
Remarks: The Lake Turkana population of Nile Crocodiles used to be the largest in the world ( IUCN World Heritage Outlook 2020). Recent data suggests that the crocodiles are heavily impacted by local fishermen who destroy nesting sites, and the remaining population is only a fraction of what it used to be ( IUCN World Heritage Outlook 2020). We found Crocodylus niloticus in Lake Turkana and adjacent water bodies along the shoreline. Very young juveniles ( Fig. 4A View Fig ) were found in March/April.
