Type locality. Ilet à Caret, Grand Cul de Sac Marin, Guadeloupe .

Ecology. Growing attached to coral fragments on a silty-sandy bottom at the foot of a steep reef slope, 215 m.

Indian Ocean distribution. Rodrigues (this paper).

Note. This report represents the first record of the entire order Rhodogorgonales for the Indian Ocean. Recently representatives of the Rhodogorgonales , all originally described from the Caribbean Sea ( Rhodogorgon ramossissima J. Norris and Bucher , Renouxia antillana Fredericq and J. Norris , and Renouxia sp. ) have been reported for the western Pacific Ocean ( Ogden, 1992: 470–477; Coppejans and Millar, 2000: 338; Littler and Littler, 2003: 68–71). The

GENT herbarium also contains a specimen of a Renouxia sp. from Tanzania (Mnazi Bay), collected in 2000 ( HEC 14169) that definitely is different from R. antillana .
