Type locality. Wagap , New Caledonia .

Ecology. Epilithic on dead coral; one collection at 5 m depth, another at 12 m.

Indian Ocean distribution. India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Rodrigues (this paper), Seychelles.

Gelidiella acerosa (Forsskål) J. Feldmann and G. Hamel, 1934: 533 Mentioned by Dickie (1877: 7, as Gelidium rigidum (C. Agardh) Greville ) but not among our recent collection.
