Sobarocephala vockerothi Sasakawa, 1993: 8 . Sasakawa, 2011: 7 [key, new record ( Philippines)].

Redescription (Fig. 12). Male. Body length 3.5mm. Arista densely plumose along entire length, becoming slightly less dense at apex. Setae yellow with slight brownish tint. Face convex below and between antennal bases. Ocellar seta absent. Mid fronto-orbital seta slightly shorter than hind fronto-orbital. Presutural intra-alar seta absent. Two dorsocentral setae. Acrostichal seta absent. One lateral scutellar seta. Head yellow with face and mouthparts light yellow, first flagellomere with strong dorsal stripe, ocellar tubercle brown, and gena and parafacial white and silvery-tomentose. Scutum brown with central stripe and anterior half of postpronotum yellow. Scutellum and metanotum brown. Pleuron and legs light yellow with fore tarsi, anepimeron and dorsal half of anepisternum brown. Halter entirely white. Wing clear. M1+2 ratio 3.5–3.7. Abdomen brown with surstylus and cerci yellow.

Female. Unknown.

Male terminalia. (Figs 75, 76) Annulus thin and band-like ventrally. Surstylus approximately 2/3 height of epandrium with apex rounded and slightly tapered; tubercle-like setae along inner-distal margin. Cerci projecting and emarginate. Ventral lobe of hypandrium long, thin, sinuate, and with one minute distal and two short medial setae; hypandrial arm large, stout. Phallapodeme, postgonite and basiphallus well-developed. Pregonite clavate (widest basally), with four basal setae. Epiphallus minute. Distiphallus approximately 3/5 length of phallapodeme and triangular in shape (viewed ventrally) with apex long and tapering; paraphallus small and subovate with outer margin produced.

Variation. BPBM male from Philippines (poor condition with most setae and most of hind legs and wings missing) differs significantly from type material and may represent a new species. Colour significantly reduced aside from entirely brown anepisternum and surstylus: yellow, elongate-oval anteromedial spot within each of two large brown posterolateral spots on scutum, which only extend slightly past transverse suture anteriorly (not to postpronotum); postpronotum and notopleuron brownish; tergites 2–4 yellow with wide brown dorsal stripe. Minute triangular stripe possibly present posteromedially on scutum. Gena with small amount of minute pruinosity, frons not strongly widening anteriorly. Male genitalia similar, but surstylus slightly longer, with length 2.3 times width at base.

Holotype: MALAYSIA. Malaya, Pahang, Tanah Rata , 1460m, 15.i.1990, J.R. Vockeroth (1♂, CNC ).

Paratype: MALAYSIA. Same collection as holotype (1♂, CNC).
