Hydropsyche kachinensis spec. nov.

Holotype ♂ (pinned), Myanmar, Kachin, road Pan Wah to Phemaw , 25°43’51.9”N 98°24’06.4”E, 2260 m, 29– 30.9.2010, leg. S. Naumann, genitalia in glycerine vial ( MfN).

Etymology. Named for the Kachin State where the type locality of the new species is situated.

Diagnosis. With respect to the male genitalia the new species is included in the H. newae Group. A similar species is H. fukienensis Schmid 1965 (and its synonym H. conoidea Li & Tian 1990). The new species differs from that and other similar species by the combination of apically directed plugs and proximally directed, small, endothecal appendages basally of the phallotremal sclerites, and the long and slender form of the harpagones.

Description. Length of each forewing 7 mm. Head and thorax brown; antennae and legs light brown; forewings with wing pattern of dispersed small, yellow spots typical for the species group; hind wings membranous, fork 1 present.

Male genitalia ( Figs 3A–3D ). Posterolateral lobes of segment IX triangular, suture between segments IX and X absent dorsally, dorsal carina broad, rounded apically. Harpagones of inferior appendages about half as long as coxopodites, slender and rounded apically. Appendices digitiformis of segment X melanized and sinuous, apices truncate. Phallic apparatus strongly sinuous; phallotremal sclerites large; endothecal appendages short, proximally of phallotremal sclerites, each with one terminal spine; pair of plugs present, directed apically; evaginated apex with two lobes bearing short apical spines, longer spines present in median position.
