Adelpherupa costipunctalis sp.n.

Diagnosis. Male genitalia with the distal part of costa of the valva forming a rounded protrusion; aedeagus with blunt, broad, plate-like cornutus not narrow as in A. avescens; zona glabra tympani with almost straight, medially connected, rami tympani. Female genitalia as A. avescens but with shorter apophyses.

Description. This species is externally close to A. avescens but the ground colour is much darker brown or darker yellow over the whole fore wing, where in A. avescens it is usually only the costa that is dark coloured.

Male genitalia. As A. avescens but distal part of costa ending in a rounded protrusion, ventral part of valva also more rounded; cornutus in aedeagus plate-like, blunt, with some minute spines.

Female genitalia. As A. avescens but apophyses shorter and broader.

Tympanal organs. A weak median longitudinal sclerotization present in the zona glabra tympani connecting the straight rami tympani.

Wing span. 25–29 mm. Distribution. Malawi. Life cycle. This species has been bred from rice. Type material examined. HOLOTYPE :: Malawi Chilwa Likangala 27 March 1975 (H. R.
