Τype genus Philomycus Rafinesque, 1820 . Original spelling Philοmycina.

Remarks. Authοrship unaffected by changes in rank (Code, Art. 50.3.1) and thus available at superfamily, family and subfamily ranks. As Philοmycina, utilized by Gray (1850: 112) tο include his new genus Janella (See Janellidae Gray, 1853 ).
