Chlorotabanus leucochlorus, Fairchild, 1969: 208 View in CoL (classification); 1971: 55 (catalog); Henriques & Gorayeb, 1993: 9 (MPEG collection); Fairchild & Burger, 1994: 87 (catalog); Henriques, 1995: 69 (INPA collection); Krolow & Henriques, 2008: 270 (male description and terminalia); Coscarón & Papavero, 2009b: 68 (catalog); Krolow & Henriques, 2009: 204 (citation).

Type locality: Brazil (AP, Serra do Navio).

Diagnosis: Medium size (12.8–16.5 mm), snow-white thorax, greenish-yellow abdomen. Eyes with narrow, elongate frons (F.I. 6.0–7.7). Antenna with elongate basal plate about 2.5x stylus length.

Redescription (Holotype Ψ): Body length 14.3 mm ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A–B); wing length 13.2 mm; wing width 4.4 mm.

Head ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C): Black eyes. Narrow, elongate frons, slightly convergent towards base, F.I. 7.7, D.I. 1.5, snow-white pruinosity, white hairs. Subcallus, gena, parafacialia and face with pruinosity as frons. Gena, parafacialia and face with dense white hairs and subcallus with less dense hairs. Palpus yellow; first segment of palpus with white hairs, second segment with yellow hairs and some black hairs on the anterior region. Proboscis with greenish-yellow theca; black labella. Antenna ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 D): scape yellow with white and yellow hairs; pedicel yellow with yellow hairs; flagellum greenish-yellow without pilosity except for some hairs on the dorsal elevation of the basal plate and on the stylus; elongate basal plate (B.P.I. 1.6) about 2.5x stylus length (Flg.I. 2.5).

Thorax: Scutum with orangish integument, with snow-white pruinosity (in all views), snow-white hairs and a few black hairs on the notopleural lobe and the mid-posterior region of scutum; scutellum, post-pronotal lobe, post-alar callus and pleura with snow-white pruinosity and pilosity. Slender legs; coxae (anterior region 2/3) with pruinosity and pilosity as thorax, posterior 1/3 with yellowish pilosity; trochanters, femora, tibiae and tarsomeres greenish-yellow with yellow pilosity, except at the dorsal apex of fore tibia, with few black hairs and the 2/3 of the hind tibia (in dorsal view) with two rows of black hairs to the last tarsomere. Hyaline wing ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 E), yellowish, except for the darkened-yellow basal costal and costal cells. Greenish-yellow veins, except for the darkening of the transverse veins; costal vein with yellow hairs and some black hairs; no appendix at the fork in the R4+5 vein; greenish pterostigma; alular incisions with black spot.

Abdomen: Dark yellowish with green pigments, covered by shiny yellow hairs except beginning at the fifth tergite, where distal transversal bands of black hairs; sternites similar to tergites.

Variations: Eyes vary from grayish, bronzy, dark red to black; pedicel can have thick black hairs; appendix in R4 +5 vein often absent and when present, usually poorly developed. Some specimens have a distal transversal band of black hairs on the first tergite. Body length 12.8–16.5 mm (X = 14.4 mm, N = 20); wing length 11–13.5 mm (X = 11.9 mm, N = 20); wing width 3.5–4.5 mm (X = 4.0 mm, N = 20); F.I. 6.0–7.7 (X = 6.7, N = 20); D.I. 1.3–1.5 (X = 1.3, N = 20); B.P.I. 1.5–1.8 (X = 1.6, N = 20); Flg.I. 2.1–3.3 (X = 2.5, N = 20). Male: as Krolow & Henriques (2008).

Distribution: Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil (Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Maranhão, Rondônia). Holotype Ψ: deposited in the MZSP. In good condition, except the loss of the apical extremity of the left wing.

Type-material examined: “SERRA do NAVIO\ Terr. Amapá BRASIL \ 24.x.1957 \ J. Lane leg.” “ Chlorotabanus \ ( Chlorotabanus ) \ leucochlorus Fchld \ HOLOTYPE ” (Ψ, MZSP).

Discussion: C. leucochlorus is easily distinguished from the rest due to the thorax covered with snowwhite pruinosity and hairs in addition to some black hairs on the notopleural lobe.
