Dasymutilla aequatorialis (André)

Ephuta aequatorialis André, 1906 . Z. Hym. Dipt. 6:165. Holotype male, Ecuador, Guayaquil [MNHN] (examined).

Diagnosis of Male. This species is easily identified by having the last tergum quadrate and hirsute, the lack of a tooth on the posterior trochanter, and by the coloration. This species has the legs and antennae reddish brown, while the remainder of the integument is black. It also has a pit filled with setae on sternum II.

Female. Unknown.

Host Identity. Entechnia taurea Say ( Hymenoptera : Apidae ) ( Nonveiller 1990).

Distribution. Ecuador.

Remarks. This species, D. creon (Blake) from the United States, and D. chilcotti sp. nov. from Mexico have the last tergum hirsute and are possibly closely related. This species is distinguished from the others without difficulty. Dasymutilla creon has the posterior trochanter toothed, while D. chilcotti has the integument of almost the entire metasoma (except the first segment) ferruginous.
