Philocentrus argenteopilosus ( Cameron, 1907) comb. nov.

Cratocentrus argenteopilosus Cameron 1907: 216 View in CoL . Original description ♀. South Africa: Cape Colony, Dundrody. Cerachalcis argenteopilosa: Masi 1944: 122 View in CoL , 131.

? = Cratocentrus ruficornis Cameron View in CoL : Steffan 1959: 313.

Material examined. Neotype from South Africa, here designated, a pinned ♀ labelled ' Cape Province: Matjesfontein, 14-27.xi.1928 / R.E. S. Africa Turner Brit. Mus. 1928-142 / ♀ " Philocentrus " argenteopilosus (Cam.) det. Z. Bouček 1997 [in Bouček's handwriting] ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 65–68 ) ( NMP).

Comment. The type of this species is said to be lost ( Masi 1944: 114). A female from the Bouček collection housed in the NMP, and identified as such by Bouček himself, fits the original description well, namely an entirely silvery setation, the same pattern of colour and a hyaline fore wing. Cameron (1907: 216) did not mention the presence of teeth on the vertex as he did in his description of C. bicornutus . If such teeth had been present on C. argenteopilosus they certainly would have been noted. Additionally, a hyaline fore wing is a character state that distinguishes Philocentrus from most Cratocentrus , especially those present in Southern Africa which have golden fasciae at least on the mesoscutum, GT5 and GT6. For these reasons Bouček's identification is accepted here and the specimen identified by him designated as neotype.
