Type-species. Parapagurapseudopsis carinatus Brum, 1973

New diagnosis. Body symmetrical, with dorsolongitudinal mesial carina on pereon and pleon. Antenna with squama (reduced in size). Cheliped with exopodite. Pereopod 1 without exopodite. Pereopods 1–6 thin, relatively similar, with merus shorter than the carpus or propodus. Pleopods biramous, in five pairs, present in males and females.

Remarks. The genus Parapagurapseudopsis is very similar to Indoapseudes . The main feature by which the two genera can be differentiate consists in the presence of five pairs of biramous pleopods in Parapagurapseudopsis , as results from the above key.

The genus Pagurapseudes , belonging to another subfamily within the Pagurapseudidae , Pagurapseudinae ( Guţu, 1981) , is characterized by the absence of antenna squama, by the configuration of pereopod 1 (much longer than other pereopods) and the presence of exopodite, and by the presence of suckers-like structures on the merus, carpus and propodus.
